My Story

When I was 12 years old my grandparents gifted me my first computer, an Apple II. Once I learned how to create my own printed materials and graphics I was hooked. Upon enrolling at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and completing courses in photography, design, and book arts I discovered graphic design was the perfect fusion of those interests. I’ve been reveling in images, typography and colors ever since. Whether designing collateral, art directing photo shoots, or creating my own artist books, visual communication has always been my work.

Always curious, I find inspiration by learning about architecture, photographing nature, perusing tiny art (like my stamp collection) and reading lots of books. I notice interesting intersections within industries and methods that offer opportunities.

About Janet

Janet Guertin is a designer, book artist and maker. From Carolina to California (and back again) her experience is drawn from several large corporations, small design studios, non-profits and her own freelance practice. Equally comfortable with paper and pixels she embraces the advantages and constraints of both digital and analog.

As an artist, Janet creates one-of-a-kind artists’ books and paper creations for sale and exhibitions. Long drawn to the book form as a vehicle for self-expression she combines modern design influences with collage, drawing, typography, and folding to form a tactile aesthetic.

Janet lives in Cary, North Carolina with her talented husband, Dave.

About This Site

This site is an attempt to produce a comprehensive collection of past work, works-in-progress and new discoveries. While I enjoy many aspects of social networks, and use them often, the organizer in me seeks to carve out this spot in a way that will be interesting to explore and offer an in-depth view of my work, thoughtful commentary and influences.

A very special thank you goes out to Dave for your constant support and encouragement. Your time and generosity has meant the world to me. Also, without your tech support, this site would not be possible. Thank you.

Also, thanks to Bruce, Shannon, Ana, Craig, Lew, Shane, Jude, Ami, and David for being awesome people to work with and talk to throughout the years. Your influence has made me a better designer.

And to you, thanks for checking out the site and reading here!
