The Creative Coptic

Saturday, August 29, 2026, 1pm - 4pm

My Muses Card Shop, Carrboro, NC

In this class you'll create a coptic journal with a creative interior that you'll be excited to use! We'll prepare the cover boards, folded signatures of a variety of pages, foldouts and pockets, and learn the 1-needle coptic stitch–a binding method that allows the book to lay flat and highlights the exposed stitching.

FEATURED

Glue Book Binding

A very generous gift of copies of the book Glue: Collage, Assemblage & Other Sticky Pursuits in sheets was given by Uppercase Magazine to a group of binders.

For the primary aspect of my design, I aimed to immortalize the familiar build up of dried glue around the top or bottom of a container and the compulsion to remove it all in one pull. To let some of the foundational material and “mess” take center stage as a contrast to the wonderful work inside which is intricate, vibrant, and colorful. The tactile build up of PVA adhesive is both literal in form but abstract at first glance. A circle motif ties the front, back, spine together. Binding is long stitch with link stitch.
